SERVICES COVERED BY THE
MEDICAL CARD

Your (GMS) medical card provides you with access to a wide range of medical services which are provided to you free of charge at point of delivery. These services include standard consultations for the treatment of illnesses and related services necessary for the management of a wide range of medical conditions. No distinction is made between Full Medical cards and Doctor Visit Cards (DVCs) in terms of the services available from your GP. Both cards entitle you to the same service. However, holders of the Doctor Visit Card will have to pay for their medications at the pharmacy.

SERVICES NOT COVERED BY THE MEDICAL CARD

There are some services we provide that are NOT covered by the medical card, and as such will incur a fee. These services include:

Chronic Disease Management

Dressings

Travel vaccinations

Pre-employment Medical Examinations

Medical Examinations or reports for legal purposes

Insurance Medicals or reports

Phlebotomy Services (routine blood tests and warfarin monitoring)

Examinations relating to fitness to take part in sports or attend gyms

Examinations relating to Fitness to Drive including eye examinations

School Entry Examinations

Passport/Identity Reports

Creche Reports/School Attendance notes and certificates

Certificates or letters in support of applications for services under the Social Welfare Acts

Utilities reports or letters

Preventative Services such as check-ups or screening services
