Chickenpox is a common illness that most children catch at some point It is caused by a virus called Varicella-Zoster. The vaccine to prevent against Chickenpox is called Varivax and is about 98% effective in preventing the disease. It is a live vaccine which causes your immune system to produce antibodies to help protect against the disease. The vaccine is given in two doses 4-8 at least one month apart.  Each dose costs €90. Please contact our nurse if you wish to avail of this vaccine. 



This is a vaccine against the bacteria pneumococcus which can cause pneumonia, meningitis and other infections. It can be given at the same time as the flu vaccine or indeed any time during the year. 


Shingles is caused by the Varicella-Zoster Virus which is the same virus that causes chicken pox.  Most people have chicken pox in childhood, later in life the virus can reactivate and cause Shingles. Shingrix is a vaccine which protects against Shingles. It is given as a two dose course. The vaccine will need to be ordered in especially for you.. The cost for the vaccine is €200 per vaccine dose ( two doses needed)


This vaccines prevents against a form of bacterial meningitis. Children born before October 2016 will NOT have received this vaccine as part of the Childhood Immunisation Programme. The vaccine is called Bexero. If you or a member of your family would like to avail of this vaccine please contact our nurse for further details. Two doses are required, two months apart. Each dose costs €150 and needs to be paid for in advance of vaccination so that it can be especially ordered in and reserved for you. 


HPV is a family of very common viruses that are passed on during sex. Most cervical cancers are caused by these viruses. The HSE provides the vaccine to all girls and boys in the first year of secondary school. If your child missed out and you would like them to be vaccinated please contact our nurse for further details. Two doses are required age 9-14 years, three doses are required age 15 and over. Each dose costs €140
